My 2017 SC Midlands Google Summit Sessions

I am excited and honored to present at the 2017 SC Midlands Summit Featuring Google for Education in Columbia, SC this June 7th and 8th.

I look forward to this opportunity to see old friends, make new friends, share some ideas, and learn so many new things from others.

  • Fantastic Feedback Tools for Google Docs

    Description: As educators we are always looking for better ways to connect with our students especially when providing feedback on their work. In this session we will explore four fantastic tools to provide feedback that is more detailed, engaging, and personal. Tools will include Google Doc text comments, voice comments with Read&Write for Google, video feedback with Screencastify, and natural handwriting feedback with the Google Classroom mobile app.
     
  • Awesome Uses for Google Drawings in your Classroom

    Description: Google Drawings is part of the Drive suite of tools but is often overlooked. However it is a fantastic program for student learning and teacher instruction. In this session we will cover the basics of how Drawings works, and then we will look at dozens of practical examples of how it can be used in schools, including graphic organizers, math manipulatives, desktop publishing, interactive digital posters, drag-and-drop poetry, and more.
     
  • Google Tools for Struggling Students and Special Needs

    Description: There are many tools, apps, extensions, and features available for Google Chrome to assist struggling learners and students with special needs. This can include students with vision or hearing impairments, or challenges with reading, writing, organization, and more. Learn what tools are available and how to access and use these with students.
     
  • Advanced Online Assessments with Google Forms

    Description: Take Google Forms to the next level with these advanced techniques for online assessments. Topics include password protecting your quiz, adding math expressions to the quiz, adding a reading passage to the quiz, turning off the quiz at a certain date and time, grading open-ended questions, making sequencing questions, and more.
     
  • Literacy Activities with Google Docs

    Description: Looking for ways to techify your literacy activities? In this session we will explore several engaging hands-on literacy activities that use features built right into Google Docs. These will include improving reading comprehension with Google Docs "Black Out", writing interactive "Choose Your Own Adventure" stories in Docs, summarization skills with the Word Count tool, and fun ways to use Emojis in Docs for reading and writing.
     
  • Telling Stories with Slides

    Description: We all know Google Slides is a great tool for making multimedia slideshows. But did you know it can also be a great tool for telling stories? In this session we will explore ways students can tell stories with Google Slides including storybooks, eBooks, comic strips, interactive stories, and stop-motion animation. We will also look at several ways to share the final product with a broader, authentic audience.
     
  • Before You Turn It In - Self-Editing Tools for Google Docs

    Description: Google Docs offers many tools and options to help students become better writers. In this session we will explore helpful self-editing tools including voice typing, text-to-speech tools, grammar and style checking add-ons, thesaurus tools, and more.
