I always look forward to an opportunity to see old friends, make new friends, share some ideas, and learn so many new things from others.
Below is a list of sessions I will be presenting at FETC 2018, along with any associated resources. Please feel free to join me for any of these sessions. I look forward to sharing, learning, and chatting with you!
My Sessions:
Hipster Google: Tools You Have Probably Never Heard Of
- Session Code: W016
- Tuesday, January 23, 2018
- 10:30 AM - 12:30 PM
- Venue: Hyatt Regency
- Room: Bayhill 23 & 24
- Session Resources: http://www.controlaltachieve.com/hipster
- Session Description: Everyone knows about Google Docs, Gmail, Search and other common Google tools. However, in addition to those tools, Google has also created a wide range of services, apps, extensions, features and other tools that are not as well-known. Even though these tools are not as widely known, they are very useful in school settings. Learn about hidden gems such as nGram, Trends, Web Fonts, AutoDraw, Tour Builder, Toontastic, Canned Responses, Smarty Pins, Poly, Office Editing, Reverse Image Search, Instant Search Cards, Mystery Animal, Science Journal, and more (list subject to change based on how cool and unknown the tools remain). You’ll leave with a much larger tool box than when you walked in the door.

- Session Code: PS135
- Wednesday, January 24, 2018
- 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM
- Venue: Orange County Convention Center
- Room: Booth 2405
- Session Resources: http://www.controlaltachieve.com/sheets
- Session Description: Google Sheets is not just a tool for crunching numbers. It is a powerful tool for learning, inquiry, exploration, and inspiration in any subject area. In this session we will take a look at several practical activities for a wide range of content areas including random writing prompts, flash cards, educational games, student-created learning databases, art and creativity, and of course analyzing data to draw conclusions and make predictions.
Making and Taking Lit Trips With the NEW Google Earth
- Session Code: C820
- Friday, January 26, 2018
- 12:00 PM - 12:40 PM
- Venue: Orange County Convention Center
- Room: North 320CD
- Session Resources: http://www.controlaltachieve.com/maps
- Session Description: The new version of Google Earth runs in your browser, making this awesome tool available for Chromebooks, Macs, and PCs. In this session, learn how to find and run Google Lit Trips with the new Google Earth. Lit Trips plot locations from a novel on Google Earth to create a 3D geographic tour of the story. At each location the Lit Trip can also include annotations, web links, images, videos, activities, and more, all related to that part of the story. This is a great way to put students in the story, helping them see where the events took place, and bring the story to life. Also see how you and your students can create your own Lit Trips (or other mapped stories and tours) using Google's Tour Builder.
