EdTech Links of the Week - 1-30-23

Each week I keep an eye out for the latest edtech resources through blogs, social media, podcasts, videos, user groups, and more. I then try to reshare these resources in many ways.

🎓 Study Hall

  • "How to College" series - Everything from choosing a school to how to apply for student loans to finding ways to earn money while in college.
  • "Fast Guide" series - Learn more about the different college majors, what kind of courses you have to take in these majors, and where these degrees can take your career.
  • "College Foundation" series - Take college courses online and earn credit from ASU.
  • Begin on YouTube then go to https://gostudyhall.com/ to take the full classes.
  • $25 to take a class. $400 to receive credit.
  • 4 courses available March of 2023, with 12 courses available by 2025.



✍️ LuminPDF

  • Lumin's premium tools are free for K-12 teachers and their students.
  • Free tools include features to annotate PDFs and eSign PDFs.
  • Sign up for free as a teacher, or have an admin sign up the entire school for even more features.
  • Integrates with Google Drive and Classroom.



📊 Slow Reveal Graphs

  • Google Slideshows that reveal parts of a chart bit by bit, to guide students through predictions, questions, and connections on a wide range of current event topics.



🐦 Follow Twitter Accounts via RSS

  • Miguel Guhlin shares how to use OpenRSS to follow Twitter accounts in your RSS reader.
  • Simply add https://openrss.org to the beginning of their Twitter profile page.
  • For example - https://openrss.org/twitter.com/ericcurts
  • Then add that RSS feed link to your RSS reader.
  • I use Feedly for my RSS reader at https://feedly.com/



🤖 AI Writing Check

  • Free service developed by Quill and CommonLit to enable educators to check if a piece of writing submitted by a student was written by the AI tool ChatGPT.
  • Based on testing with 15k essays, the tool is estimated to be accurate 80-90% of the time.
  • The tool can process between 100 and 400 words. To check responses longer than 400 words, you must separate the text into individual sections.

  • For an easy way to catch up on everything new in Google for Education from the last month, check out the recorded video, detailed agenda, and all the links from the GEG-Ohio January 2023 Meeting.
  • As usual we shared lots of news, updates, helpful ideas and resources for schools



📢 Join my Mote EdTech Playground on Jan 31st

  • I am excited to be offering a free online session for the Teacher Innovation Network where the theme will be ways technology can support multilingual learners.
  • For my portion of the session I will be presenting about the Chrome extension Mote and how it can be used in the classroom.
  • The session is completely free for everyone and I hope you can attend.
