Introducing EduGems

Gems are a great feature of Google Gemini where you can save a common prompt to use anytime you need. Rather than having to copy and paste or retype the prompt each time you need it, you can simply click on the Gem to launch the saved version of the prompt.

Recently Google released an update for Gems that makes them better than ever. Now any Gems that you create can be shared with others. You can share a Gem with specific people, or your whole school, or the entire world.

This is significant because now schools can create and curate their own collections of educational Gems to share by department or grade level or with all staff. I am excited to see schools begin to do this.

Inspired by this new feature, I have put together my own collection of favorite Gems that I have created or collected. You can find them at my new "EduGems" site at:

Note: If the main link does not work for you, you can just go to the Google Sites link for the site here - https://sites.google.com/view/edu-gems/home - It looks like Squarespace may have a DNS issue, so I am working with them to get that fixed.

See below for more details about this new site and how you can submit your own Gems.

💎 The EduGems Website

Here are the basics about the EduGems website:
  • The EduGems website can be accessed at https://www.edugems.ai/ or https://sites.google.com/view/edu-gems/home
  • At the moment the site is pretty basic, but I hope to add more features over time as the collection grows.
  • Currently the site provides access to several dozen of my favorite Gems. Some of the Gems were created by me, while others are adaptations of sample prompts from Google.
  • You can click on any of the Gems to get details on that Gem, with options to use or copy the Gem.
  • When you use a Gem, it will open in Gemini. You may need to type "Hi" into Gemini to get the Gem started. The Gem will then assist you with the task or activity.

🗳️ Submitting Gems

Do you have a Gemini Gem that you would like to share with the world? Use the form below to submit the details and your Gem will be reviewed for possible inclusion on the EduGems website.

Guidelines for your Gem submission:
  • Permission - You need to have permission to share this Gem and any content contained within the Gem. Either this is a Gem you have created yourself, or you are submitting this Gem for someone else who has given you permission to do so.
  • Purpose - The Gem needs to be of use to education, providing some benefit for educators, students, or schools in general.
  • Sharing - The Gem needs to be shared so that anyone with the link is able to access and use the Gem. In the sharing settings the "General access" needs to be set to  "Anyone with the link" can be a "Viewer".
I look forward to seeing what you create and share!
