EdTech Links of the Week - 2-6-23

Each week I keep an eye out for the latest edtech resources through blogs, social media, podcasts, videos, user groups, and more. I then try to reshare these resources in many ways.

One way I share these is here on the blog in these "EdTech Links of the Week" posts. See below to explore the latest batch of resources, and be sure to share with others who may benefit.

If you want to make sure you don't miss new resources, you can:

And as always, please let me know of any resources that you recommend. I would love to learn from you!

This week I have 3 resources from around the Internet and 1 resource from my blog.

▶️ Recorded Video

You can watch the recorded live stream where I demonstrate the resources and go into more detail on each one.

Or you can watch the video on YouTube where I have added time stamps in the description so you can jump directly to the spots in the video where I talk about each link:

Future live streams will usually be on Monday evenings at 7pm EST. You can subscribe to the "Control Alt Achieve" Google Calendar so you will always have a full list of upcoming live streams here: Google Calendar link

The next scheduled live stream is Monday, February 20th, 2023 at 7pm EST. You can add this specific live stream to your calendar here: Calendar Event link

You can always get the exact time, as well as links to the live streams for YouTube, Facebook, and LinkedIn at:

New resources from around the Internet...

🎞️ ScreenPal

  • Free and easy video recording extension from Screencast-O-Matic.
  • Record your screen, webcam, or both.
  • Record from any text box or comment field, or record from any web page.
  • Annotate on the screen.
  • Add fun special screen effects.
  • Edit the video if needed to crop to just a portion of the window, or to trim the ends.
  • Paste the link to your recording anywhere for others to view.

🕹️ Coding Games with ChatGPT

  • Tony Vincent shows how to use ChatGPT to code HTML games that can be embedded in Google Sites.
  • As an example he shares the playable mental math game "The Percent Progress Game".
  • Even if you or your students don't know how to code, you can use this process to create your own web-based interactive games and activities!

💾 Save Image As PNG/JPG

  • Many websites now use the "WebP" format for their images instead of PNG, GIF, or JPG.
  • However, some programs still do not support the WebP format (such as Google Slides, Docs, and such).
  • If you need to save an image in a format other than WebP, these extensions can help with that.
  • The "Save Image as PNG" extension will save images in PNG format.
  • The "Save Image as Type" extension will save images in PNG or JPG format.
  • As always, be sure to use images in accordance with copyright and fair use.

And new resources from "Control Alt Achieve"...

❤️ "Hearts & Charts" Google Sheets Valentine Math Activities

I recently made an interactive, self-checking Google Sheets template called "Hearts & Charts" which lets students use Valentine Conversation Hearts candy to practice math skills including:
🤔 Estimating
🖐 Counting
⚖️ Comparing
➕ Adding
➗ Dividing
📊 Graphing

You can get your own copy of the template and detailed directions at the link above. This could be fun for any time of year, but could also work well for a Valentine-themed candy activity. I would love to hear your thoughts and any extension ideas.

BONUS - For more Valentine activities, also see my previous post from a few years ago including Valentine Emoji Rebus Stories, Valentine Magnetic Poetry, and Valentine Cards.
