My 2018 SC Midlands Google Summit Sessions

I am excited and honored to once again present at the 2018 SC Midlands Summit Featuring Google for Education in Columbia, SC this June 13th and 14th.

I look forward to this opportunity to see old friends, make new friends, share some ideas, and learn so many new things from others.

  • Supercharge Google Docs with Drawings

    Description: You can't do that in Docs! If you have ever made this claim, you may not be taking advantage of everything Docs can do. Built into Docs is Google Drawings, a tool that can add more features and make Docs more interactive. See how you and your students can use the integrated Drawings option in Docs to add playable videos, insert text boxes, add captions to images, embed graphic organizers, add interactive activities, provide a whiteboard area for student work, and more.
     
  • Google Tour Builder for any Subject

    Description: Google's Tour Builder is an easy to use but powerful tool for students to create virtual tours, including locations, images, videos, descriptions, hyperlinks, and more. These tours can be used in any subject area such as retelling the events from a novel, tracing the locations of a historical event, visiting different biomes or landforms around the world, and more. Tours can be viewed by others in Tour Builder, or even imported into Google Earth for a full 3D experience. Learn how you and your students can make and take virtual tours with Google Tour Builder.
     
  • Hipster Google: Tools You Probably Never Heard Of

    Description: There are many tools, apps, extensions, and features available for Google Chrome to assist struggling learners and students with special needs. This can include students with vision or hearing impairments, or challenges with reading, writing, organization, and more. Learn what tools are available and how to access and use these with students.
     
  • Holy Sheets: Google Sheets Activities for all Subjects

    Description: Google Sheets is not just a tool for crunching numbers. It is a powerful tool for learning, inquiry, exploration, and inspiration in any subject area. In this session we will take a look at several practical activities for a wide range of content areas including random writing prompts, flash cards, educational games, student-created learning databases, art and creativity, and of course analyzing data to draw conclusions and make predictions.
     
  • Google Classroom: Amazing Mobile Features
    June 14th - 12:20pm-1:20pm - Location: Meeting Rooms C&D

    Description: Google Classroom is a great tool for managing class assignments, collaboration, discussions and more. However, if you are only using the normal web version, you are missing out on many special features. Students and teachers can also run Classroom as a mobile app on phones, tablets, and modern Chromebooks. The mobile version adds several additional tools such as handwritten annotations, the option to take and insert images and videos, share content from other mobile apps in Classroom, push notifications, and more.   • Stop Motion Animation with Google Slides

    Description: Many times we think of Slides as just a program for creating multimedia presentations. However, with just a few tricks you and your students can actually use Google Slides to make stop motion movies. This can be a fun and creative way for students to share their ideas and express their understanding in any subject. Learn how to use Slides to create and share stop motion movies with photos, shapes, text, and more.

    Description: Everyone knows about Google Docs, Gmail, Search, and other common Google tools. But there are also loads of smaller, lesser-known, but powerful tools. Learn about hidden gems such as nGram, Trends, Web Fonts, AutoDraw, Tour Builder, Toontastic, Canned Responses, Smarty Pins, Poly, Office Editing, Reverse Image Search, Instant Search Cards, Mystery Animal, Science Journal, and more (List subject to change based on how cool and unknown the tools remain.)
