I am excited and honored to once again be presenting at the UCET / UELMA 2024 Conference in Salt Lake City, Utah on March 19th and 20th.

I always look forward to an opportunity to see old friends, make new friends, share some ideas, and learn so many new things from others.

  • Description: The capabilities and availability of Artificial Intelligence tools have skyrocketed in recent years. It is critical for schools to consider how to best address and use AI in education. In this session we will explore the ABC's of AI including: A) About AI (what AI tools are currently available and how they work), B) Benefits of AI (practical and powerful ways to use AI for teaching and learning) and C) Concerns of AI (how to address potential misuses of this transformative technology).

  • Description: AI access for students is often limited because of the students' age or because of school policies. However there are lots of engaging ways for a teacher to use AI in class for interactive learning activities where the students are participating but the teacher is still managing the AI. In this session we will see how you can "invite AI into your classroom" for interactive projects including debates on any topic, live interviews where the AI takes on a role, "20 Questions" games on subject area content, co-writing activities, and more.

But there are also loads of smaller, lesser-known, but powerful tools that can be used for teaching and learning. Learn about 70+ hidden gems such as nGram, Trends, AutoDraw, Chrome Music Lab, Toontastic, Landlines, Reverse Image Search, Instant Search Cards, Semantris, Art Palette, Timelapse, Interview Warmup, GameSnacks, Data GIF Maker and more (List subject to change based on how cool and unknown the tools remain.)

  • Description: ChatGPT and Gemini are wonderful, but what other AI tools are available? Thankfully there are many educational AI resources that build on top of these models with tools that are free, provide extra functionality and features, and make the process easier and more convenient for educators. In this session we will explore many of these tools including EduaideAI, Diffit, Twee, MagicSchoolAI, Conker, Curipod, Almanack, QuestionWell, Brisk, Goblin Tools, SchoolAI, Mizou, EnlightenAI, Snorkl, Sorcerer, and more.

  • Description: Join UCET / UELMA 24 Featured Speaker Eric Curts for a board game night during After Dark. We will have treats and prizes. Feel free to bring any games you would like to play with others! The UCET / UELMA team will provide some board and card games for those that cannot bring their own. All After Dark events are open and free to all attendees across the conference.

In this session we will explore powerful Chromebook features including screen capture, screen recording, and screencasting, using the camera for photos, videos, and scanning documents, helpful keyboard shortcuts, using multiple profiles, managing multiple desks, extending your capabilities with Android apps and Linux apps, offline access for Drive, Gmail, and Calendar, built-in accessibility tools, and more!

  • Description: We all know Google Slides is a great tool for making multimedia slideshows. But did you know it can also be used to make "Choose Your Own Adventure" style stories, interactive quizzes, online comic strips, storybooks, stop-motion animation, manipulatives, class soundboards, formative feedback in class, peer editing activities, and more? In this session we will explore these and more non-traditional uses of Slides. Learn how students can use Google Slides to express themselves in more ways than just a presentation.

In this session we will explore a wide range of Google tools that incorporate generative AI including Google Gemini, NotebookLM, Search Generative Experience, integrations in Docs, Slides, Sheets, Gmail, Search and more! See how these tools can be used by teachers and students.
