My OETC 2022 Sessions

I am excited and honored to once again present at the Ohio Educational Technology Conference (OETC 2022) this year.

This year OETC is entirely virtual and runs from February 14th through 18th.

Beyond the Slideshow: Google Slides Activities for all Subjects

  • Description: We all know Google Slides is a great tool for making multimedia slideshows. But did you know it can also be used to make "Choose Your Own Adventure" style stories, interactive quizzes, online comic strips, storybooks, stop-motion animation, manipulatives, formative feedback in class, peer editing activities, and more? In this session we will explore these and more non-traditional uses of Slides. Learn how students can use Google Slides to express themselves in more ways than just a presentation.

Holy Sheets! Google Sheets Activities for all Subjects

  • Description: Google Sheets is not just a tool for crunching numbers. It is a powerful tool for learning, inquiry, exploration, and inspiration in any subject area. In this session we take a look at several practical activities for a wide range of content areas including random writing prompts, flash cards, educational games, student-created learning databases, art and creativity, conditional formatting feedback for students, task lists, analyzing data to draw conclusions and make predictions, and more!

Awesome Uses for Google Drawings in your Classroom

  • Description: Google Drawings is part of the Drive suite of tools but is often overlooked. However it is a fantastic program for student learning and teacher instruction. In this session we cover the basics of how Drawings works, and then we try out dozens of practical examples of how it can be used in schools, including graphic organizers, math manipulatives, desktop publishing, interactive digital posters, drag-and-drop poetry, creating memes, making composite "green screen" images, innovative art projects, collaborative games, and more.
FREd Talk: Passwords and Positive Self-Talk
  • Time: 12:00 PM - 12:20 PM

  • Description: A key component of social and emotional learning for students and adults is having a healthy self-image and goals. One way to help develop and maintain this is through consistent use of positive self-talk. Although there are many ways to do this, technology can be part of the solution, specifically your passwords. Learn how you can strengthen your passwords, and strengthen yourself!

Google Tools to Support all Learners

  • Description: There are many Google tools, apps, extensions, and features available to assist all learners, including students with special needs. These can include text-to-speech, speech-to-text, readability, reading comprehension, audio support, organization, focus, navigation, and more. Learn what tools are available and how to access and use these with students.
Engaging ELA Activities with Google Docs
  • Time: 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM

  • Description: Looking for ways to techify your literacy activities? In this session we explore several engaging hands-on language arts activities that use features built right into Google Docs. These include improving reading comprehension with Google Docs highlighting, creating black out poetry, writing interactive "Choose Your Own Adventure" stories in Docs, summarization skills with the Word Count tool, fun ways to use Emojis in Docs for reading and writing, prewriting with embedded graphic organizers, and more!

  • Description: Everyone knows about Google Docs, Gmail, Search, and other common Google tools. But there are also loads of smaller, lesser-known, but powerful tools. Learn about 70+ hidden gems such as nGram, Trends, AutoDraw, Chrome Music Lab, Toontastic, Landlines, Meme Buddy, Reverse Image Search, Instant Search Cards, Semantris, Grasshopper, Art Palette, Timelapse, Data GIF Maker and more (List subject to change based on how cool and unknown the tools remain.)
