EdTech Links of the Week - 8-6-24

Each week I keep an eye out for the latest edtech resources through blogs, social media, podcasts, videos, user groups, and more. I then try to reshare these resources in many ways.

One way I share these is here on the blog in these "EdTech Links of the Week" posts. See below to explore the latest batch of resources, and be sure to share with others who may benefit.

If you want to make sure you don't miss new resources, you can:

And as always, please let me know of any resources that you recommend. I would love to learn from you!

This week I have 4 resources from around the Internet and 3 resources from my blog.

📦 Boxie
A couple weeks ago I shared about Boxie and how it can be used to turn videos and PDFs into interactive learning experiences and auto-graded assignments. Since then they have rolled out a new "auto-pintagging" feature that uses AI to automatically add the 📌 pins and 🏷️ tags as annotations.
  • Simplify your resource creation and enhance students' comprehension with one-click activation of auto-pintagging.
  • This tool automatically enriches your videos and PDFs by adding pins, tags, summaries, and relevant media.
  • It also breaks down content into smaller, easily digestible sections, each with a concise summary.
  • Additionally, it provides annotations and supplementary resources, including visuals like images, videos, maps, and links, to further deepen students' understanding.

📰 Newspaper Templates

I have long been a major fan of Slides Mania and all the amazing free templates that Paula creates and shares through the site. It has been a while though since I have shared any of her new creations.

Recently I saw that she had added some great newspaper templates. This Google Slideshow contains five different newspaper front pages, which the description suggests students can edit to discuss news and fake news, to differentiate information from opinion, or to write articles about a lesson.

🤔 Imagine Me with Meta AI

Meta AI has added a fun new feature where you take a picture of yourself and then have the AI create a new version based on a prompt such as "Imagine me surfing" or "Imagine me as a Viking". You can access this new tool by typing "Imaging me" in the Meta AI chat in Facebook Messenger or on the Meta AI website. Learn more in the article linked above.

🗞️ EdTech Newsletters

In additional to creating this newsletter, I love reading other EdTech newsletters from amazing educators all over. These are great for learning about tools, tips, news, and resources that I might have missed otherwise. Some of the EdTech newsletters I subscribe to can be accessed in this Google Sheet and are listed below:
  • CESA5 Tech Tip Tuesday
  • Learning in Hand
  • Tech You Can Do
  • Of Bits and Bytes
  • Tech Tips 411
  • NEOnet Technology Integration
I would love to discover more EdTech newsletters, so please feel free to email me with your recommendations. I will explore them and see about adding them to the Google Sheet for others to see.

📄 Between a Doc and a Hard Space

Recently I received an email from someone asking how to insert a "hard space" into a Google Doc (or sometimes just called a "non-breaking space"). It turns out you can do this in Google Docs, but it is not a simple task. I was excited to dig in and discover how this can be done (as well as create an exceptionally punny title for this blog post). See the link above for direction on how to add a "non-breaking" or "hard" space in Docs when needed.

🛠️ Join me for the MakerEd Educators Forum

I am super excited to be presenting at the virtual MakerEd Educators Forum this September. This is a two day virtual conference where educators will explore maker topics, share ideas, exchange tips & tricks and learn from one another.

I'll be presenting my session "Yes (even) You Can Code with AI!" om September 28th. You can get all the details and registration information at the link above.

🤿 World Snorkl Day - Recorded Videos

I recently had the privilege of presenting a session for "World Snorkl Day". This was a free live streamed PD event with four hours of awesome content from twelve amazing educators across eight different sessions of fun, learning, and inspiration!

See the link above for all of the recordings from "World Snorkl Day" including the "Snorkl Innovation Slam" session I was honored to be a part of.
