My 2023 GaETC Sessions

I am excited and honored to be presenting at the Georgia Educational Technology Conference (GaETC 2023) in Atlanta, Georgia on November 1st and 2nd, 2023.

I always look forward to an opportunity to see old friends, make new friends, share some ideas, and learn so many new things from others.

👓 Hipster Google - Tools You Probably Never Heard Of

  • Description: Everyone knows about Google Docs, Gmail, Search, and other common Google tools. But there are also loads of smaller, lesser-known, but powerful tools that can be used for teaching and learning. Learn about 70+ hidden gems such as nGram, Trends, AutoDraw, Chrome Music Lab, Toontastic, Landlines, Reverse Image Search, Instant Search Cards, Semantris, Art Palette, Timelapse, Interview Warmup, GameSnacks, Data GIF Maker and more (List subject to change based on how cool and unknown the tools remain.)



💻 Chromebooks Can Do That?!

  • Description: Chromebooks have become a common tool in schools, but are you and your students getting the most out of them? In this session we will explore powerful Chromebook features including screen capture, screen recording, and screencasting, using the camera for photos, videos, and scanning documents, helpful keyboard shortcuts, managing multiple desks, extending your capabilities with Android apps, offline access for Drive, Gmail, and Calendar, built-in accessibility tools, and more!



🔑 Google Tools to Support all Learners
  • Time: 3:15 PM - 4:10 PM

  • Description: There are many Google tools, apps, extensions, and features available to assist all learners. In this session we take an in-depth hands-on look at a wide range of technology tools to assist any and all learners. These can include text-to-speech, speech-to-text, readability, reading comprehension, audio support, organization, focus, and more. Learn what tools are available and how to access and use these free tools with your students.



🖐️ Active Learning with Google Tools
  • Time: 4:30 PM - 5:25 PM
  • Location: GICC, Salon 2

  • Description: EduProtocols are instructional templates that are designed to engage students in learning through critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and creativity, in any subject or grade level. In this session you will see how engaging these can be for students by trying out several hands-on activities such as Sketch and Tell, Iron Chef, Tier List, Thin Slides, and more.

💡 AI-AI-Oh! Engaging AI Uses in Education

  • Description: AI can be used in so many ways in schools to improve teaching, learning, creativity, productivity, support & more. Explore dozens of uses for AI with some reading here & some writing there, here some tutoring, there some coding, everywhere some AI assistance.



🤖 The Bard's Tale: Google AI in Education

  • Description: Explore a wide range of Google tools that use generative AI (& previews of tools coming soon) including Bard, NotebookLM, and Google's AI integrations in Docs, Slides, Sheets, Gmail, Search & more! See how these tools can be used by teachers and students!



⚙️ Excellent Extensions for Chrome
  • Time: 12:15 PM - 1:10 PM

  • Description: Web extensions provide extra features, tools, and options for the Chrome browser. Learn how to find, install, and use extensions from the Chrome Web Store, and then explore over 150 recommendations. Hands-on demonstrations will be done for selected extensions, from tried and true tools to my newest discoveries.



😈 Artificial Intelligence / Natural Misuse - Managing AI in Schools
  • Time: 4:30 PM - 5:25 PM

  • Description: As beneficial as AI is, it also comes with challenges and the potential for misuse. In this session we will explore tools and strategies to help monitor AI use, proper citation for AI generated content, ways to encourage positive use of AI in the classrooms, developing your own class set of AI guidelines for students, alternative assessment options, and more.
