EdTech Links of the Week - 1-15-24

Each week I keep an eye out for the latest edtech resources through blogs, social media, podcasts, videos, user groups, and more. I then try to reshare these resources in many ways.

One way I share these is here on the blog in these "EdTech Links of the Week" posts. See below to explore the latest batch of resources, and be sure to share with others who may benefit.

If you want to make sure you don't miss new resources, you can:

(Or watch on YouTube and click the timestamps to easily jump between the different tools.)

➗ Sembl
  • Sembl is a free website that curates high-quality math tasks for grades K through 6 from independent creators and delivers them to you.
  • All of the tasks on Sembl are freely available on the internet, but it can take hours finding the tasks you need.
  • With Sembl, you simply filter based on the grade level, topic, and type of resource you're looking for.
  • Within seconds, you'll be served engaging tasks ready to launch right from within the platform.
  • Bionic Reading has been a popular technique for several years where the beginning part of a word is bolded to help the reader focus on the start of the word when reading text.
  • Bionify is a free extension to convert website text into the Bionic Reading format.
  • Once you have the extension installed you can click on it and then click the "Toggle Bionify" button to turn it on or off.
  • You can also click the "Enable Auto Apply" button to have it automatically applied to all websites.

  • MusicFX is an experimental AI technology from Google that allows you to generate your own music.
  • Simply type in a text prompt describing the music you want.
  • MusicFX will generate samples of that music, and give you options to fine tune your prompt if desired.
  • The AI generated music can be set to various lengths or looped for an endless song.
  • You can download or share the music created.

😀 10 Ways to Add Emojis in Google Tools
  • Over the years I have shared lots of ways that emojis can be used for teaching and learning and creativity.
  • A question I have received from time to time is how do you add emojis to Google Docs and Slides and such.
  • In this blog post we explored 10 different ways you and your students can add emojis to Google tools.

🗓️ "One Word for 2024" Photo Word Template
  • With the new year here, one popular activity is to pick a word for the year that is your goal or focus for the year.
  • There are lots of ways to show the word you choose, but one fun option is as a Google Slides Photo Word.
  • Photo Words are an activity I created a while back where you put an image inside of a word in Google Slides.
  • To make the process as easy as possible I have a template for the "One Word for 2024" activity, which also includes detailed directions and a tutorial video.
