EdTech Cool Tool - Diffit

This post is Day 10 of my "Cool Tools 2023" series where we are exploring some of the year's best tools for teaching and learning.

This year we are focusing on artificial intelligence tools and how they can be used in schools.

You can access all of the cool tools in the series as they come out at bit.ly/cool-tools-23 and in this Google Slideshow.

For this entry in the series we are taking a look at: Diffit

See below for details, directions, uses, and links for this artificial intelligence resource. If you have used this tool, please consider sharing your experiences, how you have used it, tips, tricks, and more.

🔱 Diffit

web.diffit.me

Diffit is an AI-powered tool that helps created differentiated reading and resources for students. This includes:
  • Adapting any reading, excerpt, article or video for any reading level
  • Generating short informational or narrative texts on any topic, for any reading level.
  • Creating an automatically generated summary, comprehension checks, vocabulary words, and more to go with whatever text you’re working with

Here's how it works...
  • Start by going to the Diffit website at web.diffit.me and log in.
  • Next pick the content to be adapted.
  • This can be done three ways.

Option 1 - "Literally Anything"
  • Here you can enter a topic, term, or question that you want to use for your students.
  • With this option Diffit will generate the text to go along with your topic.
  • Next choose the grade level and language.
  • Click "Generate Resources" when ready.

Option 2 - "An Article or Video"
  • Here you can paste the URL of an article, online PDF, or YouTube video to get differentiated resources.
  • With this option Diffit will read in the content from the article, PDF, or video.
  • Next choose the grade level and language.
  • Click "Generate Resources" when ready.

Option 3 - "Any Text or Excerpt"
  • If you have the original text for your students to read, here you can paste the actual text from any source, article, document, or such.
  • Alternately you can also upload a PDF file with the text.
  • With this option Diffit will use the text you are providing to generate the resources.
  • Next choose the grade level and language.
  • Click "Generate Resources" when ready.

Diffit will now generate the resources for your text or topic. If needed you can modify the generated resources:
  • Click the grade level menu to change the reading level for the resources.
  • Click the "Translate" button to change the content to a different language.
The resources include the following...

Adapted Reading Passage
  • Here you will see the re-leveled text or the generated text.
  • Click "Adjust Length" to choose between short, medium, long, and original length.
  • Click "Show Sources" to see what references Diffit used to adapt or generate the text.
  • Click "Edit" to make any changes to the adapted text.
  • Click "Copy" to copy and use the text anyway you need.

Summary
  • Here you will see a bullet list of key points from the reading.
  • Click "Edit" to make any changes to the summary.
  • Click "Copy" to copy and use the summary anyway you need.

Key Vocabulary Words
  • Here you will get a list of important vocabulary words from the reading.
  • For each word there will be the part of speech, a definition, and an example sentence using the word.
  • If you need more vocab words, click "Add Vocab Words" to generate more or add your own.
  • Click "Edit" to make any changes to the vocab words.
  • Click "Copy" to copy and use the vocab words anyway you need.

Multiple Choice Questions
  • Here you will get multiple choice questions from the reading.
  • If you need more questions, click "Add Questions" to generate more.
  • Click "Show Answers" to display the answers to the questions.
  • Click "Edit" to make any changes to the questions.
  • Click "Copy" to copy and use the questions anyway you need.

  • If you need more questions, click "Add Questions" to generate more.
  • Click "Show Answers" to display the answers to the questions.
  • Click "Edit" to make any changes to the questions.
  • Click "Copy" to copy and use the questions anyway you need.

  • If you need more prompts, click "Add Prompt" to generate more.
  • Click "Edit" to make any changes to the questions.
  • Click "Copy" to copy and use the questions anyway you need.

Exporting

When you are finished reviewing and adjusting the resources, you can export and use the content in several ways:
  • For each item you can simply click the "Copy" button to copy those resources.
  • Alternatively you can click the "Export and Share" button at the top.
  • Free users can choose the option here to print the resources or save them as a PDF.
  • Paid users have a wide range of additional export options including Google Doc, Google Forms, and many Google Slides templates.
